What if There Was No Color
What if it Works?
What on earth would that be like? The first thing that would pop into our heads is probably just a world in black and white. But it really wouldn't be like that. Technically white is a color, it's a combination of all colors.
The white words on this page are made white because each pixel is showing all of its colors, making it look white. Like this:
Confused? Take a step back.
This was proven with the following diagram.
So a world without color would not have any white in it because white is all the colors. So without colors, there would be no white.
What about black?
Well, technically black isn't a color. But it reflects all colors. If we reverse the order of the diagram. We can show black like this:
The difference between this diagram and the one above is that the first one shows all the colors combined. The second one shows the primary colors combined.
Black is not a color. But it can only exist with other colors.
So the world without color wouldn't have black or white. So what would it look like?
It complicated. But What if it Work? Doesn't care about complicated things, let's take this head on.
It would be best to see this with a color-blind person. Would a color blind person see the world without color? The first answer would be "Why not?"
Well actually, it's not that simple.
Most color blind people could see things like us. But are not able to fully comprehend colors. But they do see colors. But differently.
Normal Vision
Color-Blind Vision
Even blind people still see shades of colors. If you would put a blind person in a totally green room, they would still be able to tell that the room is green.
So it seems more complicated then we would originally think.
So then lets think of it this way. A world with no color would be a world without even black and white. It would be like nothing.
Of course everything would still be in our world. We just wouldn't be able to see it. But since it's still there, we would be able to feel it, eat it smell it, and hear it.
Still. It's very hard to imagine a world without color. We want to know what it would really be like.
So let's explain it with the example of glass. If we put glass in front of the object, we see right through the glass and only the object in front of it.
But what if there was no object in front of it? What if everything was just see-through?
Creepy right? But cool. Still, we can't see anything, so we would most likely be tripping all over objects, what do you think would be the point of that?
Coolness.
But scary. Is it worth it? What do you think?
