What if There Was Another Planet With Life?
What if it Works?
Intro
Many scientists believe we are not alone in the universe. They say that life could have arisen on at least some of the billions of planets thought to exist in our galaxy alone - just as it did here on planet Earth.
Are we really alone in the galaxy?
Humans are trying to make life in other parts of the galaxy. Like, for example, a manned Mars mission, but is there natural life on other planets?
Let's find out.
1. What we would think it would be like?
NASA of course also has the same question. So they decided to act upon it. If we find planets the same size, radius, and mass, as earth, then there's a big chance those planets have life on it.
So NASA launched a new type of mission in 2009. It's called Kepler. It's basically a space observatory to discover Earth-sized planets. It's called Kepler because it's named after the astronomer Johannes Kepler.
So what did they find?
The first Earth-sized planet orbiting a star was found. It was at just the right distance from its sun, where liquid water could form.
It's called Kepler 186f. It's very far. About 500 light-years away. So there is life on other planets.
So say we went to this planet. How would it be like?
2. What it would be like?
(We don't really know much about what the atmosphere is made of, but what we do know is that it's much dimmer.
Kepler would get slightly less light from its star, the earth from the sun. High noon on a sunny day on Kepler, would look like the sun, an hour before sunset on Earth.
So we would have a slightly dim sky. We also don't really know how dawn and dusk would look like. We only know how bright it would be.
It's also hard to figure out how the weather would be like either. What we do know is that a year would be much shorter, about 130 Earth days.
So there would be a little getting used to, with the sky, the time, the years, temperature, and the like. Still, after all that, it sounds pretty cool to live on another planet. How would the animals look like? What about the landscape?
There would be so many things to discover. Another question: Maybe there are other types of humans living there right now? That would be very interesting. They might look different, do to the climate change, weather, and all that. How technology advanced would they be? Maybe they discover us? What if they are planning a space mission to our planet? That would be interesting to receive them.
All these thoughts are rather new, and intresting. So what do you think?
