What if The Sky Was White?
What if it Works?
Intro
-------------
The sky now is blue. What if it wasn't? Well, technically thick pollution causes the sky to appear white, but a clear sky is always the color you know of it, as blue.
Why is that?
Air is made mainly from molecules of nitrogen and oxygen with a dose of argon, water vapor, carbon dioxide and traces of many other gases. Together, as Lord Rayleigh explained, the molecules of these gases scatter the blue colors of sunlight much more effectively than the green and red colors. Therefore, a clear sky appears blue.
We're not talking about that though, anyway, don't get scared that only happens sometimes, and the sky doesn't fully become white in any case.
What if the sky became fully white? How would that be?
What we think it would be like?
In order for such a thing to happen, we would need our atmosphere to change. The sunlit sky is blue because air scatters short-wavelength light more than longer wavelengths. Since blue light is at the short-wavelength end of the visible spectrum, it is more strongly scattered in the atmosphere than long-wavelength red light, which is lower wavelength. The result is that when looking toward parts of the sky other than the sun, the human eye perceives them to be blue.
So if we wanted a white sky, the sky would have to have the air to scatter all wavelengths, because white is all the colors. Then we would see a white sky.
How would people like that though? So you're walking around one day, taking a walk, and all of a sudden the sky turns white? Would we notice it? Would we care? What's the worst a white sky can do? Some people might even think of it as a cool color.
Still, blue skies represent nature, at least for now. Would people like that change, or not? Would we want something new, and change to a white sky? That depends on what you think, others might think it would be scary, or amazing.
So would it Work?
Most likely no, but would we even want it to happen if it did?
What do you think?
